Who said the Church of England is Out of Touch?

I get to study a whole range of things at college: including hermeneutics.. which is (according to wikipedia) Hermeneutics may be described as the development and study of theories of the interpretation and understanding of texts So I may be one of the first people on the planet to work out what those strange 160 character messages means. No more, does that mean he fancies me trauma! No more "did they mean to say shag or were they saying rich?"... happy days!!

Cost..

"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost." Isaiah 55:1 Intimacy with God, the presence of God does not cost. Any person can meet with God regardless. Jesus paid for that. But all else costs. I don't mean money, though that may be true. But everything, every little step towards a greater experience of the Kingdom. Every kind word in a world of hate, every little bit of hope given. It costs. Tonight I'm feeling the cost. It will pass, but its worth noting.

It is finished!

School: with as little trauma as possible. Harry Potter: was done by Saturday lunch. No plot spoilers here. It made me uncomfortable for much of it but at the end of the day was great! Am very happy to discuss with any other finishers! Church: well nearly. The guys have set off on the evening congregation journey. I preach for the last time on SUNDAY!!!

Endings..

The next two weeks are going to be interesting ones. Its the beginning of the end of my time in Luton. This week I finish school. In theory thats the end of my teaching career: I'm finding myself wondering about what to say as my parting shots to my students. I'm thinking along 'wear sunscreen' lines! At the end of this week (after Potter), the new evening community at church really spins into action. I have, I think, three emails to send before my job there is done (unless the community ask me to do anything else). Then its just a final preach. On the uniqueness of Jesus. Thats on 29th July: 7pm at St Marys if you wanna come play. Theres so much I could say about whats happening at the moment but it all feels a bit too overwhelming for blog. But it will be exciting!! Woo haa.

HP source!

Check out the discussion to ensue on Carla's blog about HP 7. I've left some thoughts there... If you are picking up a copy in Luton watch this space for gathering times: we're thinking pub till 11.30 ish to get out all the last minute theories!!! So excited!

Dad addresses the world

This is me and my Dad: a little while ago. We both grew a little since then. Today my Dad made me well proud. He was on telly. Not just in a tin pot way: he was in 140 countries to something like 500 million people. And he's a pretty shy fella my dad. He was one of the wee snippets they interspersed with the Diana Memorial concert: second one on, alarmingly talking about bowls but hey!!! They got free tickets for the concert which meant he got a go on the new Wembley too!!! Go Dad (and mum)! Just hoping they survive the packed Tube on the way back!! (cue another post on role reversal worry about parents out late on their own!!)
